And
now, time for some 45-hour CE package FAQs:
How does it work?
first tuesday is an educational institution which provides homestudy correspondence prepared and responded to by full-time staff instructors. When you register for a package, we mail you study materials in bound printed form and on CD-ROM. On enrollment, you also have immediate access to the same study materials online.
To complete the courses in the package, you must pass an open-book final exam. The exam may be taken online or administered on paper with a monitor of your choice. The printed exam is mailed to the monitor at the time of your request, not with the reading materials. You select the test monitor, who can be anyone except a relative, broker, or a co-worker. You take the exam at any place and time acceptable to you and your monitor. On your completion of the printed exam, the monitor will fax the answer sheet and the monitor's Certificate of Test Administrator to us for faster grading. We grade the exam and mail and/or fax a copy of the Certificates of Completion directly to you if you pass the exams. When taking the exam online, your grade is immediately displayed on your screen and you may print your Certificates of Completion on your printer.
Are first tuesday courses approved by the Department of Real Estate (DRE)?
Yes, all the courses we offer are approved by the DRE. To confirm our renewal CE courses are DRE approved, click here.
Are
the courses available to read online?
Yes. Upon enrollment, the 45-hour CE package you chose will become available for you to read by logging into your student homepage.
Can I take
the final exam online?
Yes. You can take
the final exam online from your home, office, etc. Once you're
done, the exam is instantly graded and you'll get your results
immediately. You can print out your Certificate of Completion right then or later
— it's up to you!
Other than the price, what's the difference in the courses?
The Topic-Specific Courses
are focused solely on one or two subjects. The General-Update
Course of Real Estate Matters is a general collection of many different subjects without going in-depth into any of them. The best way to
get the most out of your continuing education is to choose
a course that sounds interesting to you.
Which course is the easiest/hardest?
There is no
"easier" or "harder" course. Our reading materials
aren't designed that way. Each course is thoroughly researched
and every attempt is made to present the material in an interesting
and easy-to-understand manner.
The DRE says I need courses in Consumer Protection and Agency, Fair Housing, Trust Funds, Ethics, and Risk Management as part of my 45 hours. Do you offer this?
Yes. All of our packages include the 18-hour minimum DRE requirement in Consumer Protection. Each package also includes the mandated hours in Agency, Fair Housing, Trust Funds, Ethics, and Risk Management. Choose any ONE 45-hour package and you're covered with first tuesday.
I
want to register for Course #603, but Buying Homes in Foreclosure sounds interesting. Can I create my own package of courses?
No. We prepackaged these courses to conform to the 45-hour math. If we let you choose the courses, you may end up with too few or too many continuing education hours in the wrong DRE-mandated categories. Select
one package and you get correct DRE-required combination of 45 hours of CE.
Consider this: Regardless of which 45-hour package you enroll in, you'll receive (unless you enroll in an online only package) our Course Materials on CD ROM which includes all the books first tuesday publishes.
I already took some classes somewhere else so I don't need
a full 45-hour package. Can I purchase individual courses instead?
Yes. Give our office
a call at 1.800.794.0494 for pricing. Let us know how many
hours you already have in which categories and we'll let you know which of our
courses will work for you.
Does first tuesday send my test results to the DRE?
No. The DRE does not accept course completion information from anyone but the licensee under cover of a submittal form. You are responsible for submitting your renewal application with the information on the Certificate of Completion to the DRE either via mail or using the DRE's e-licensing program on their website.
When will I receive my reading materials?
All the materials we ship to you are available online for you to begin reading the instant you enroll.
USPS delivery time for the printed materials you receive is 2-9 days depending on your distance from Riverside, CA. Orders are shipped the next business day. However, your minimum study period before you may take the final exam begins the day after we take your order. We do have rush shipping available for those who want the printed materials and the CD-ROM before heading out on a vacation, for example. Call 800.794.0494 for pricing.
I waited until the last minute to do this, can I take my final the same day I enroll in the package?
No. The Department of Real Estate has established a minimum enrollment time of six (6) days for all 45-hour packages. Your 6-day minimum study period before you may take the final exam begins the day after we take your order. As per DRE regulations 45-hours exams must be taken on 3 seperate testing dates.
I don't want to take the final exam online, how do I take the final exam?
Simple. We'll send the printed final exam to a Test Administrator of your choice. You and the Test Administrator arrange 3 convenient times for you to take the exam. Once you've completed the final exam, fax us a copy of the answer sheet and the front page of the exam booklet for faster processing before mailing in the exam booklet. After we grade the exam we'll send the exam results directly to you.
Who can be the Test Administrator?
The Test Administrator can be anyone except for a relative (by blood or marriage) or co-worker (your broker, other agents in your office, etc.). Keep in mind, the Test Administrator does not have to be a real estate licensee.
Can you send the final exam to me?
No. The Department of Real Estate requires the final exam to be completed under the supervision of a Test Administrator. Final exams cannot be mailed or faxed to the student.
Can I use the reading material while I take the exam?
Yes. It is an open-book exam. You may look up the answers to your exam questions in your reading materials. The questions are taken from the reading material in chronological order.
What type of questions are on the exam?
The final exam will consist of True/False statements and multiple choice questions. As the DRE only allows 15 hours of continuing education credits to be tested on in any 24-hour period, our 45-hour final exams are broken into three (3) sections. You may test on only one section in any 24-hour period.
What is the minimum passing grade on the final exams?
You must correctly answer at least 70% of the questions to pass.
How much time am I given to take the exams?
Each of the three (3) sections are timed. For the specific amount of time given for each section of the 45-hour final exam, please go to our General Information Page.
What if I don't pass a final exam?
If you do not pass an exam on your first attempt, you may until December 31, 2010 retake the exam as often as necessary to pass it so long as you are within your one-year enrollment period.
When do I receive my final exam results?
When taking your exam online, you'll receive your score instantly upon clicking the submit button. If you do not pass an exam on your first attempt, you may until December 31, 2010 retake the exam as often as necessary to pass it so long as you are within your one-year enrollment period. On passing the exam, you may print your Certificate of Completion from your pinter, then and at any later time.
When taking a paper exam with your monitor, we grade your exam and put the Certificate of Completion in the mail to you within one working day via first-class mail. If you would like us to immediately fax you a copy of the Certificate of Completion, enter your fax number in the space provided on the Certificate of Test Administrator.
What is your refund policy?
A full refund of every penny you paid us will be issued, no questions asked, when requested prior to expiration of your one-year enrollment period and before taking the final exam. No refund for overnight or 2 day shipping charges.
What if I don't complete my 45-hour package before my expiration date?
Your license will expire. However, if your license was in good standing on its expiration (not suspended), you have a 2-year grace period in which to complete your 45 hours of CE and submit your renewal application to the DRE. The on-time renewal fee for sales agents is $245; for brokers $300. However, the late renewal fee for sales agents is $367; for brokers $450. While your license is expired, you may not perform licensee services until the DRE processes your renewal. As long as the DRE receives your renewal application and processes it before your 2-year grace period ends, you will not lose your license and you will not need to retake the state exam.
