How do I obtain or renew a DRE license?

After you pass your course exams with first tuesday, you must apply to the DRE to obtain or renew your license. You are responsible for notifying the DRE that you have successfully completed your licensing or renewal coursework. To obtain your Certificate of Completion, please log into your student homepage with your DRE license.

I'm a broker renewing my license.

Your license may be renewed online or by mail. Print out your first tuesday Certificates of Completion before starting your renewal online or on paper. If you are unable to print your Certificates, call us at 800.794.0494. Only you can notify the DRE that you have obtained your continuing education credits.

The following DRE forms must be completed:

» RE 208 Broker Renewal Application
» RE 251 Continuing Education Course                   Verification

Additional documentation:

» RE 205 State Public Benefits Statement                   (Citizenship or Alien Status)

If not previously submitted when you obtained your license or during a previous renewal, you will need to submit RE 205 - State Public Benefits Statement (Citizenship or Alien Status) and supplemental documents to establish proof of legal presence in the United States.

Applicable fee:

Fees may be paid with a check or credit card. Payments made by credit card must be accompanied by DRE form RE 909. The DRE accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express and debit cards with the Visa or Mastercard logo.

On-time renewal: $300

Late renewal: $450

Mail your completed DRE forms, any additional documentation necessary to renew and the applicable fee to:

To complete your renewal online, you must first register online with the DRE's eLicensing. eLicensing tutorials are available at http://www.dre.ca.gov/elic_tutorials.htm.

You will need the following to renew online:

» Credit card for payment of fees

Fees may be paid online with a credit card. The DRE accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express and debit cards with the Visa or Mastercard logo.

On-time renewal: $300

I'm a sales agent renewing my license.

You apply to take the state broker licensing examination by mail, not online, as follows:

» RE 400B - Broker Examination Application
» RE 226 or RE 227 - Employment Verification or Equivalent Experience Verification
» Original Certificates of Completion, or proof of completion, such as college transcripts
» Applicable fee

Exam Fee: $95
License Fee: $300

I've completed my courses for a sales agent license and I want to take the state sales agent exam.

You apply to take the state sales agent licensing examination by mail, not online, as follows:

 

» RE 435 - Application for examination and license, completed and signed
» Original Certificate of Completion for Real Estate Principles course
» Original Certificate of Completion for Real Estate Practices course
» Original Certificate of Completion for third course
» RE 205 - Citizenship or alien status completed and signed with proof of residency
» RE 237 - Fingerprint operator service
» Fees payable to the Department of Real Estate by cashier's check, check, or money order; or paid by Credit Card using DRE Form RE 909:
