Renewing your DRE MLO/NMLS Endorsement
Steps to renew your MLO Endorsement
Complete your CE
The California BRE requires 8 hours of continuing education to renew an MLO/NMLS endorsement. If you hold an NMLS endorsement from another state regulatory agency, check the other state CE requirements here. You may not take the exact same material two years in a row.
Confirm your CE completion has been banked with the NMLS
- For on-time CE: first tuesday will bank your credits within one business day, and send you an email confirmation of the banking. The NMLS can take up to two business days to mark your endorsement as eligible to renew.
- For late CE: first tuesday will report your CE completion within one to two business days. The NMLS can take up to five business days to bank the credit and mark your endorsement as eligible to renew. first tuesday will send you an email confirmation of the banking once we are notified by the NMLS it has occurred.
Log in to the NMLS Renewal Page and follow the renewal instructions
The NMLS requires you to attest to the current status of your endorsement, and pay fees. You are not required to take any further steps regarding CE at this point. If your endorsement shows eligible to renew, your credits are on file with the NMLS. Greater detail, including step-by-step walkthroughs of the renewal process, can be found on the following pages:
Corporate and Officer MLO/NMLS Endorsement Renewal
You must renew your officer endorsement with the NMLS before your corporate endorsement can be renewed. You only need to complete CE for your officer endorsement.
The NMLS Renewal Period runs from November 1 to December 31 every year. Licensees with an MLO/NMLS endorsement may take CE any time during the year, but may only file their renewal during the Renewal Period.
DRE MLOs also have a Reinstatement Period, which runs from January 1 to February 28 of the year after the endorsement expires. DRE does not charge a reinstatement fee.
DRE MLOs who have not renewed their MLO/NMLS endorsements by the end of the Reinstatement Period are required to reapply for the MLO/NMLS endorsement. They must take late CE, but do not need to retake any prelicensing education.
